                                       ALEJO SANTA MARIA U                       .

Sculpture-Painting in one.

Alejo Santa Maria, Medellín, Colombia, 1946.

An ever-searching artist, his career is intense in originating and exploiting new venues of inspiration. Combining great expressive ability with the touch of highly skilled designer creativity, Santa Maria’s painted sculpture incorporates elements from natural and cultural traditions reminiscent of the rich pre-Columbian heritage of South America.

Self-made painter, his career began since childhood, following a family tradition of well-known painters in Colombia.  He has participated in over 34 exhibitions in Colombia, England, Germany, Spain, Italy, Greece, Uruguay and United States.

Santa Maria is a versatile artist, combining various artistic media throughout his career:  portraiture, sculpting, painting, graphic design, illustration, photography and cinematography.  His passion for the diversity of human cultural representations has also taken him to work with indigenous peoples of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta of Colombia, where he produced a number of television documentaries, which were broadcasted by national and international networks.
